Nowadays cell phones have become so popular among the youth that many people can’t imagine their lives without them, and the same happens with pupils. However, there are so many reasons why pupils should have no right to bring their cell phone to school.
The first reason is that all teachers are against using them in the classrooms, as they say that students with cell phones are disinterested, disorganized, absent-minded, and they also disturb other students. Text messaging, video games, music players, social networking websites are some of the things that pupils tend to be more concerned with. A ringing cell phone, beeping text, humming “reminder” are all the disturbing sounds that bother the classmates. School is a place where children study and get knowledge and if they switch off their mobiles, they will spare a lot of time that can be spent on plenty of necessary and useful things. It happens too much when pupils forget to turn off or to silence their cell phones, and then are interrupted or bothered. Even if the mobile phone usage could be restricted at school and pupils were allowed to talk only during the breaks or lunchtime, there would still be an urge to check if somebody has called you or sent you a message. Students always concentrate their attention on their phones and text messages, and teachers seem unable to change the situation.

Another disadvantage of cell phone usage in the classroom is that it encourages pupils to cheat at examinations. A cell phone with the internet access means that pupils can without any difficulty get the answers to any examination, quiz, question, and so on. A student in the one class can readily take a photo of the questions of the test with his phone camera and send it to his friend who is sitting in another class, thus giving him chances to cheat. A good way how to avoid it is just not taking cell phones in schools.
Some school bullies can even use camera cell phones to take embarrassing and provocative photos of other students in the washroom and locker room or naked, and then it is spread in public which can cause intimidation and blackmail. Instead of using the phones in emergency situations, some students can take photos or videos of teachers, and then put them on the Internet for ridicule. Also, they can use cell phones for sale or purchase of drugs, organizing thefts, and so forth.
Sometimes, when students have a difficult test or they haven’t been prepared for a lesson, they can also make use of cell phones to raise panic in the schools by making fake calls to the police and reporting a bomb on the school premises. The most alarming and worrying thing about it is that some pupils, who have taken part in these activities, then confessed that they had made these false calls because they had nothing to do in the classrooms and wished to kill the class time.
When pupils come to school in the morning, the teaching staff often has to interrupt their affairs and preparations for the lessons to remind them to switch off their cell phones while they are at school and take them away. Other problems take place in the school building when the students talk on the phones in the halls, canteens, restrooms, or in class and laboratories. It’s inadmissible to use cell phones in the classroom; however, they sometimes ring in spite of teachers’ warning and threats, and that causes a disturbance in class. Students also send messages to each other during the lesson. The situation gets even worse when students use cell phones to send answers to the questions on exam or a test to their classmates. The most terrifying is when students text friends or relatives who stay outside school and ask them to send in right answers and decisions. All of these troubles could be prevented with not allowing cell phones in schools.
Mobile phones are full of high technology that makes them expensive and valuable. Everyone desires to get the latest model. Sometimes only rich children have exclusive mobile phones. It can lead to a considerable quantity of social problems, such as hierarchy, jealousy, and larceny. The great problem of theft also increases among the pupils. Schools are the most dangerous places for wearing mobile phones. Pupils can hit each other. Things can happen to drop on the floor. That is a real place where your mobile phone can be ruined or lost. Taking into account the value of mobile phones, the best thing is not to take it to school.
In a teenage group, a mobile phone is an original indicator of social status. And the latter often depends not on personal achievements of the child in study, sports, or a hobby, but it is exclusively connected with the fact how rich his parents are. In such a situation, there can be an unhealthy competition between children and a reason for disagreements in a family.
Mobile phone is a burdensome item on a family budget, especially if the child can’t control his conversations.
The mobile phone reduces the abilities of the child to adaptation and communication with other people in a society and, of course, at school. Pupils spend a great deal of their time at communicating on their cell phones; they are not learning how to build personal relationships. The child’s world is often narrowed down to the computer, Internet, mobile phone, the necessity to go out disappears, and the children don’t often have a meaningful experience of friendship and normal communication. The people become cut off from the external world.
Children may also develop addictions to a mobile phone. It seems to the child that, without a phone, he is not so interesting any more to his friends and classmates, and that his importance in their eyes diminishes. Here we mentioned all drawbacks and disadvantages of using cell phones at schools. However, you have the choice and you have to make a decision if it’s better to take your mobile phone with you to school or to leave it at home.
