The Lost at School book by Greene describes his tried proof-based approach which can be applied to help in challenging kids at school.  Having done research from neurosciences, he tries to offer a new theoretical skeleton for understanding the hardships of kids with behavioral challenges and also tries to explain the reason why traditional methods have not been able to solve some of these problems. Stressing the revolutionarily easy and positive thought that kids do well if they can, he explains that kids with behavioral challenges are not attention-seeking, manipulative, limit-testing, forced, or unmotivated, but lack the skill to behave accordingly. The book comprises of the tools to identify the triggers and lagging skills underlying challenging behavior, explicit guidance on how to radically improve interactions with challenging kids , dialogues, questions and answers, a storys of one child and his teachers, parents, and school, practical guidance for rewarding  planning and collaboration among the key players in the education system.  This book is solely focused on appropriate ways to understand children with abnormal behaviors in school and for how to work with them to bring change. The story line helps to reveal these method in action when they are used by fictionalized characters who ar5e well drawn. The author’s approach assumes that they should “know how we want them to behave” and  “want to behave the right way”. Such that these students do not need to be offered rewards or be deprived their priveleges inorder to learn these assumptions.

These youngstars lacks  particular thinking skills making it impossible for them to radically behave in cicurmstances coming most of the times in school. In the past 20 years of education it has been acknowledged that cognitive deficits  and  learning disabilities are part and parcel of youngsters learning and the same will apply to those with behavioral problems. The educators, parents, and the students must identify the missing or lagging cognitive skills and help these students identify them as a core part of education process. Greene provides an inventory to make educators remember some rubrics used frequently today to asses students for extra attention or hyperactive difficulties.  In lagging skills  teaching the disadvantaged is the moist crucial situation. Greene doesnot provide a curriculum for teaching these children rather, he gives an approach called Collaborative Problem solving and continues with the story of sixth-grader Joey into its explication.

This approach is simple since it just involve the working together of the teacher, administration, and the student. Green employs the use of a good name for this scheme instead of using psychological jargons. This approach is different from the traditional form of helping kids with challenges which he calls Plan A and Plan B. This approach has proved futile with years since when teachers impose what they want onto the students, the students looses interest since they are not able to keep inpace with the teacher or with the standards set by the institution and they end up dropping out of school and therefore failing to attain their goals.

Plan C is is whereby the expectation of the existence of the children with difficulties is foregone either temporary or permanently. This is a scape goat for the institutions that do not want to adress the issues of the disadvantaged children. When this approach is adopted the children with behavioral problems in school are forced to behave like other normal students and this makes them feel uncomfortable and they thus ends up dropping out of school and as a result of this the do not achieve their dreams in life and this increases the number of social misfits in the society. Adressing the problem is therefore essential in protecting the future of the society. The greens plan B is the CPS which is more practical in the real life situation. It assumes and demands litsening to and and  high level of participation of the students. In the story it has been found to be a deeply entrentched skill of the educators with positive intentions. It can be easily learned and is the key to activating things to work. The section of question and answers and simple dialogues incooporation in the story shows the openness of Greene to the way things can steer in wrong directions when dealing with real kids in the real school situation.

If a teacher learns how to treat the students with the behavioral problems well, the number of cases of indiscipline in the schools will reduce and which will focus on reducing the number of students dropping out of school. If the system of CPS was to be adopted students with behavioral problems would reduce relativelly in the higher institutions of learning since they will have been helped early and made to behave like normal human beings whgo respects every member of the society even though they are offended.

The central focus of this book somehow differs with mmy beliefs in managing students with problems in controlling their behaviors. I strongly believe that a tree must always be shaped from the time it is young and the only way of doing so is installing a discipline standard and if a student or a child fails to achieve or may be breaks the rules set, he or she should face the consequences of his/ her actions. This would involve some methods that will prevent the event to reoccur again in the student’s life. After through nreaqding and analysing this book my stand on handling the students with behavioral problems changed since i understood the importance of communication between the child and the teacher. This can always prevent any ofccasion of indiscipline to occur since the child has been installed with correct reasoning and also ut has been taught to redspect the authorities or othe order persons in the society. From this book i also learnt that communication is the only efficient method of reducing or managing behavors in an institution.

As a classroom teacher this book helps to prevent some displine cases but not effectively since a class teacher is supposed to manage that class and ensure the students or the childrens achieves the best. It also ensure that all students are treated well by their classmates and consequently the conducive lerning enironment is maintained. Communication solves the indispline behavior to some extent since in a scenario with few children with discipline problems, communication will help. In a case where a class has a great number of indisciplined students, communicxation between the students and the teacher may not help solve the problem therefore it calls for the class teacher to use whichever form of punishment in order to control the  number of indiscipline cases.

Working with behavioral problems may not sound bad aas a class teacher as long as they can be contained. In a situation where communication is effective, i can collaborate with these students to make thghe  people of substance in future if they are willing to go under reform but if they are not willing collaboration withn them is impossible andf hence it leavers no room for close wrking of the me as a techer with them. I am willing to help you in moving from the archaic beliefs that are held in most schools today. This will only be possible if there will be maximum coopersation between the parents, students, and the management of the school since the process of reform is a vigorous one and it will call for for the participation of all stakeholders in the education sector. This book is not only meant for educators rather for all people concerned with the welfare of these kids with problems in conducting themselves in the appropriate manner.
